Happiness is an interesting thing. Someone could be famous with tons of money and not be happy. Someone could also have reached a state of inner harmony and an understanding of themself but they still aren’t happy. It doesn’t matter what someone has. They can still be very unhappy.

But, a smart and super cool philosopher named Socrates actually crated these methods on living a better and happier life. These quotes and teachings can help you improve your self and happiness levels.

I think he’s pretty cool 😎

Find yourself

I think the first step to being happy is actually understanding yourself. Understanding the things that make you sad and happy.

To find yourself, think for yourself - Socrates

You need to be able to think for yourself. Understand the decisions you are making and why you made them. Don’t let people influence your decisions.

Socrates talks about the importance of understanding yourself. He talks about how it is important to find who you want to become.

Be as you wish to seem - Socrates

To be able to be how you wish to seem you need to know who you want to be and why you want to be like that. Why is super important (check out my other article on why asking “Why” is so important 😏). It can help you gain a deeper understanding of something. In this case, yourself.

The happiness secret

The secret of happiness is not found in seeking more, but in developing the capacity to enjoy less. — Socrates

This is really interesting actually. Like I talked about in the beginning people can have everything and still not be happy.

I think Socrates is very correct. People need to stop seeking materialistic things to gain happiness. It’s about learning who you are and what non-materialistic things bring you happiness.

Learn how to be alone with yourself. Relying on other people for everything would suck. So first, learn how to live with yourself then build up from there. Add little things that don’t take away your happiness and that don’t make you go back to the state of relying on other people.

It’s the secret to happiness ;)

The Socrates story

Sometime in your life, you will most likely have to face the decision of marrying or not. Socrates story is actually super helpful with this decision and this decision relates a lot to happiness as well.

Some people find happiness in marriage when others don’t. This is also part of the finding yourself part. You should understand your values and beliefs before you are faced with a decision like this that changes your whole life.

By all means marry; if you get a good wife, you’ll become happy; if you get a bad one, you’ll become a philosopher. — Socrates

Some people actually get a good laugh at this and I think it is interesting. If you believe that marriage will make you happier and a better person than by all means go for it. But like I said it is all about understanding you!

And with that, I’m out! Please check out my other articles, connect with me on LinkedIn and follwer my twitter!

See you soon:)
